Implantable Contact Lens

IMPLANTABLE CONTACT LENS

Implantable contact lens is a soft intraocular lens made of collamer and is implanted behind the iris, in front of the natural lens.

ICL is another innovative scientific and technological achievement in the ophthalmic field.

It is the treatment of choice for people with thin corneas and extremely high refractive errors.

  • Aged 21-45 years old (US FDA approved age group)
  • Stable vision with no change in refraction error
  • People with high myopia, range from -3.0 diopters to -20.0 diopters (US FDA approved)
  • People with hyperopia up to +12.00 diopters
  • People with astigmatism up to -0.5 diopters
  • People with thin cornea or abnormal corneal curvature

Advantages of surgery:

  • Small corneal incision about 2.5mm
  • Corrects a wide range of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism
  • Does not require any removal of corneal tissue
  • Reversible
  • Fast recovery

Post-operative care:

  • Apply antibiotic and steroid eye drop for 6 weeks.
  • Avoid any water or irritants go into eyes for 24 hours.
  • Avoid going smoky and dusty areas for 1 week.
  • No vigorous exercise and swimming for 1 month.
  • To do proper eye lid cleaning for 1 month.

Common questions:

  • How soon can I resume my routine after the surgery?

It is a quick procedure with a visual recovery period of a day

  • Will the ICL implant rejects the eye?

No, the implant is biologically inert as well as biocompatible to the eye.

  • How long will the ICL implant last?

The ICL implant is designed to remain inside the eye indefinitely.

It is considered as permanent contact lens without any maintenance.

However, the lens can be removed at any time in the future should it be necessary.

  • Does ICL look like contact lens?

Visian ICLs are much smaller than a contact lens and they are implanted behind the iris

They are not visible to those looking at you. Given the location of the implanted lens,

it will remain permanently in place and cannot be felt.

  • How long does ICL surgery take?

This procedure takes approximately 20 mins per eye.

  • Is there any diet restrictions?

There is no food restriction after surgery.

  • Can I have ICL treatment after I have done laser surgery?

Laser surgery will permanently modify the cornea and since the ICL treatment does not affect the cornea,

it is possible to have ICL after a Laser treatment.
